I love "Children of Men," as haunting as it is, it somehow captured beauty in destruction.Stephscohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06328839483008086049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468546013884694910.post-48011141017121722192011-05-10T16:01:50.099-04:002011-05-10T16:01:50.099-04:00I'm not sure if it's dystopia or post-apoc...I'm not sure if it's dystopia or post-apocalyptic, but The Girl Who Owned a City, a middle grade novel from the '70s, was a huge influence on me. Stephen King's The Stand, also.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11193968454140458048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468546013884694910.post-90000264812028428522011-05-10T15:27:48.567-04:002011-05-10T15:27:48.567-04:00I love reading about your influences! I've gone back and tried to trace all the influences that made me love dystopia/sci fi a while ago and came with some films that I watched over and over and really impacted me: Running Man, Total Recall, Terminator (aparently Arnold Swartzenegger was in every sci fi movie of my childhood!!!). And more recently, Gattaca. Gotta love a soceity that's all pretty on top with a super scary underbelly!Heather Anastasiuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14974838585457441140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468546013884694910.post-7591142171966778362011-05-10T12:52:57.288-04:002011-05-10T12:52:57.288-04:00Too funny! Thank goodness I don't do that any more! :)Juliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10783105022383640157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468546013884694910.post-8180034680735945242011-05-10T12:13:29.313-04:002011-05-10T12:13:29.313-04:00Aldous Huxley's Brave New World was the first ...Aldous Huxley's Brave New World was the first dystopia I read realizing it as such, and it's the book that spawned my near-obsession with dystopian lit. What's funny is that I mostly read it to impress a guy I had a crush on who had enjoyed reading it. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05941919404657989208noreply@blogger.com
